Introduction

A comprehensive range of surgical treatments in otorhinolaryngology are performed, on both adults and children. The latest modern techniques such as endoscopic surgery, navigation, neuromonitoring, CO2 laser, shaver and radiofrequency are utilized.

Surgery of nose and paranasal sinuses

  • endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses (FESS, removal of polyps and tumours, use of shaver, maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, frontal sinus and sphenoid sinus operation, marsupialization of mucoceles, dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), cerebrospinal fluid leak closure)
  • septoplasty, septal perforation closure
  • nasal turbinate reduction with radiofrequency or shaver
  • rhinoplasty (closed and open technique)
  • nasal valveplasty

Sinus surgery is indicated in chronic sinusitis that does not respond to conservative treatments. The symptoms include chronic rhinorrhea, nasal congestion, headaches and facial pain. Ultimately, surgery is determined by the particular circumstances of each patient and should be tailored to each individual.

‍Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is used for treatment of chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, tumours or other sinus disorders. It is a minimally invasive treatment method. The use of angle endoscopes with various degrees allows the surgeon to have good visibility of the nasal cavity and sinuses with high resolution. During the operation, nasal polyps or other tissues responsible for the blockage of the paranasal sinuses and the nasal cavity are removed. The pathologic areas are thoroughly cleaned so that a satisfactory and normal drainage of the sinuses can work.

The advantage of this method is that the patient experiences a faster recovery and the risk of complications is minimised. The patient can usually return home next day and to his work within a few days.

‍Endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses is a safe and effective treatment option for patients with problems of the paranasal sinuses.

‍Our goal is to provide you accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment to give you long-term relief from your sinus problems. We use new state-of-the-art techniques and procedures successfully, provide the best possible treatment and accelerate your recovery.

Facial plastic surgery

  • rhinoplasty
  • otoplasty
  • blepharoplasty
  • resection of skin tumours of the face and reconstruction of skin defects
  • scar correction
  • resection of nevi

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty - the surgical correction of the nose - is one of the most common plastic surgeries worldwide today. Whether for aesthetic reasons or for the improving of nasal function, we are here to help you to plan and perform your desired procedure.

In a detailed consultation we discuss with you your personal preferences. This does not only concern the external appearance, but also the function of your nose. After all, aesthetic and functional aspects are often interrelated.

‍Many years of experience have been accumulated in surgical correction of the nose making closed or open rhinoplasty and applying modern techniques to achieve the optimal result. Natural and harmonious overall appearance is ultimately the utmost goal.

‍A surgical correction of the nose requires great confidence. The patient is accompanied along the way to your new nose and we are also available for questions and support after the intervention.

Otoplasty

The aim of otoplasty is to correct ears that are either too large or protruding or misshapen, in order to improve the external appearance.

People with protruding ears often feel disadvantaged and suffer. Otoplasty helps them to feel more confident (or boost their self-confidence).

‍The most common cause of protruding ears is hyperplasia or aplasia of some elements of the ears, such as the helix, anthelix and conchal bowl.

Incision and suturing techniques of the cartilage are used and combined skeleton of the ear to achieve the best possible result. Usually the incision is made behind the ear and the postoperative scar is barely visible.

Most patients can return to normal activities after only a few days.

‍Plastic correction of prominent ears and lobes is performed in children from the age of 5 years and in adults.

Microsurgery of the ear

  • tympanoplasty type I and III, ossicular chain reconstruction
  • mastoidectomy
  • stapesplasty
  • grommet insertion

Microsurgery in the ear is performed with the help of a high-resolution microscope and special tools and requires only small incisions. This technique allows a faster and gentler healing process and a quicker return to normal daily activities.

‍The most commonly performed ear microsurgeries include tympanoplasty, stapesplasty and mastoidectomy.

‍Tympanoplasty involves repairing the eardrum if it is damaged or perforated and restoring hearing by making a ossiculoplasty. Stapesplasty repairs or replaces the stapes in otosclerosis. A mastoidectomy, also known as cholesteatoma surgery, is a procedure in which chronic inflammation is removed from the mastoid cavity.

‍Preoperatively a detailed consultation is held to discuss all questions and concerns. The surgery itself is usually performed under general anaesthesia. After the surgery follows a short recovery period.

Great emphasis is placed on the quality and safety of the processes and ensure that
each patient receives individual and attentive care.

Pediatric ENT-surgery

  • adenotomy
  • tonsillectomy with Coblation
  • grommet insertion
  • resection of lateral cysts
  • resection of medial cysts
  • resection of lymph nodes of neck
  • otoplasty
  • frenulectomy (tongue tie surgery)
  • excision / marsupialisation of ranula

We specialize on pediatric care and offer a wide range of ENT procedures.

‍The most common ENT procedures for children include the adenotomy, treatment of tonsillitis and correction of prominent ears.

Adenotomy is an important procedure in children who suffer from snoring or chronic upper respiratory infections.

Often this procedure is combined with the insertion of ventilation tubes to treat hearing disorders.

‍Recurrent tonsillitis also causes serious problems. In these cases, a tonsillectomy may be necessary. In this procedure, we remove the tonsils to prevent chronic infections and improve the child's health.

Another common ENT surgery for children is the otoplasty. This procedure significantly improves self-confidence and quality of life of the child.

‍Due to our extensive experience, we are able to improve the health of your child and provide you the best possible treatment. We cooperate closely with parents and children to develop an individual and effective treatment plan tailored to your child's needs.

COBLATION tonsillectomy

We use Coblation technology in tonsillectomy.

Unlike the traditional method with high temperatures due to the radiofrequency current, COBLATION technology uses lower temperatures causing minimal damage to surrounding tissue.

Patients report faster recovery time and less pain compared to traditional tonsillectomy.

Coblation technology is a safe method with minimal post-operative complications.

Surgery of salivary glands and neck

  • removal of sialoliths
  • submandibulectomy
  • parotidectomy with neuromonitoring, lateral and total parotidectomy
  • excision / marsupialisation of ranula
  • resection of lateral cysts
  • resection of medial cysts
  • resection of neck tumours
  • neck dissection

The salivary glands are necessary for the moistening of the oral cavity, proper functioning of digestion and oral hygiene. However, various diseases and injuries can lead to the need for surgery.

‍One of the most common surgical procedures performed on salivary glands is the parotidectomy. It involves the removal of the parotid gland, which is located next to the ear. A parotidectomy is performed usually when a benign or malignant tumour has been found in the gland or when chronic infections or inflammation occur. The operation is performed using facial nerve monitoring. We offer years of experience in the field knowing and mastering the anatomical structures of the head and neck.

‍Another operation related to the salivary glands is the removal of the submandibular salivary gland. It is located under the lower jaw and helps to flow saliva. However, if a tumour or a stone is found in the gland blocking the salivary gland, surgery is necessary.

There is a great deal of expertise in treating salivary gland disorders with parotid and submandibular gland surgery.

Surgery of snoring and sleeping apnea

  • uvuloplasty
  • uvulo-pharyngo-plasty

Snoring and sleep apnoea can significantly affect the quality of your sleep and even lead to serious health problems.

‍Snoring is a common problem caused by the narrowing of the upper airway. This can be caused by obesity, consumption of alcohol, enlarged tonsils or other anatomical obstructions. Although snoring in itself is not necessarily dangerous, it can lead to poor quality of sleep and cause sleep deprivation in your partner.

‍Sleep apnea, on the other hand, is a more serious condition in which breathing stops completely from time to time during sleep. This can lead to more serious health problems, such as heart problems and strokes. The symptoms of sleep apnoea include loud snoring, sudden awakenings, pauses in breathing and morning headaches.

‍There are several treatment options for snoring and sleep apnea including lifestyle changes such as weight loss or abstinence from alcohol. Therapeutic devices, such as a CPAP mask, can provide breathing during sleep if night-time ventilation is needed.

If conservative treatments are ineffective, surgery may be required.

‍We offer a personalised surgical plan with a variety of surgical procedures that can help to reduce snoring and sleep apnea.

These include removal of enlarged tonsils, uvuloplasty, uvulo-pharyngo-plasty e.g. with radiofrequency and surgery of the nasal septum.

Surgery of larynx, pharynx and trachea

  • microsurgical removal of polyps and cysts of the vocal cords
  • microsurgical removal of Reinke’s edema, leukoplakia and tumours
  • cordectomy, partial laryngectomy with LASER
  • posterior cordotomy with LASER for bilateral vocal cord paralysis
  • injection with VOX Implants for augmentation of unilateral vocal cord paralysis
  • resection of tumours of pharynx with LASER
  • tracheostomy
  • laryngectomy with lymph node dissection (neck dissection)

Innovative technologies and procedures to perform minimally invasive surgery on the larynx and trachea including laser microsurgery and endoscopic surgery are used.

All laryngeal and tracheal surgeries are available to accommodate our patients, including the removal of polyps, cysts and tumours of the larynx and trachea, as well as improving respiratory and vocal function.

The most common procedures include microscopic surgery of the vocal cords (to correct voice disorders), laryngeal endoscopy (to diagnose and treat laryngeal disorders), laser chordectomy for carcinomas and posterior chordotomy with laser for bilateral vocal cord paralysis and laryngectomy (complete removal of the larynx).

It is important that these procedures are solely performed by experienced surgeons. Endoscopic laryngeal procedures are usually safe and quick, requiring a short recovery time.
